You may or may not have seen it: back in the early days of 2015, there was a video uploaded to YouTube, and it proved to be groundbreaking and life-changing. Dark eye circles could actually be covered up with red lipstick, all thanks to Deepica Mutyala’s video, which of course then went viral! At time of writing, it has racked up more than 10 million views, and the views possibly grow by each day. That was the birth of Mutyala as an on-air beauty expert and YouTube personality, as within days of that game-changing video she was on talk shows such as The Today Show and The Dr. Oz Show.
Mutyala is a South Asian beauty entrepreneur, businesswoman, and founder and CEO of Live Tinted, a multicultural community about beauty and culture. Growing up in Texas, Mutyala stood out for two reason: her love of beauty and her obsession with New York. Previously having worked at L’Oreal and Birchbox, the roles exposed her to and equipped her with the skills, innovations and people she needed to carve a path out for herself. With her expertise back then, she launched a YouTube video and never looked back, but she has happily added “founder” and “CEO” as new roles since launching Live Tinted, her very own company, in January 2018.
At first, Live Tinted was an just inclusive digital community that focuses on exploring diverse beauty for “every shade in between”, discovering underrepresented people in beauty and their personal stories with culture and identity. Better yet, Live Tinted also acts as a cross-cultural platform and movement for the community, known as the #TintFam, where all could discuss everything about beauty and culture, which would then lead the way for product development. After gaining 500,000 followers on Instagram, Live Tinted then released its very first product: The Huestick. The Huestick is an eye, lip, and cheek multistick that also balances out dark circles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation, making it a super convenient multitasker that can be used for anything anytime.
Today, Mutyala and Live Tinted aims to expand the reach of women through digital platforms, while giving honest feedback on beauty and skincare products. Mutyala finds great pleasure in receiving messages from people telling her that she is their inspiration, whether professionally or in their beauty routine, and her motto in life is the same as her beauty motto: “Be bold.”
