What’s your opinion of having a chill, relaxed time? 😊 Everyone has different thoughts on what is “relaxing”, but taking a bath ranks pretty high up for most people! Soaking in a luxurious, warm bath at the end of a long day – especially cold winter days – is a perfect way to unwind, complemented with either your favourite beverage in hand, a book to read, or maybe just your favourite music playing, while you lie back and just enjoy the sensation of being submerged in water. 😍
Baths are rarely enjoyed with just plain water – where’s the fun in that? – and a whole range of products are dedicated specially to enhance bath time. You could go simple by churning your bath water up just with your favourite body gel and adding a few drops of essential oil, but we suggest to you something with a little more reaction and pizzazz: bath bombs! 🙌
What Is A Bath Bomb?
A bath bomb is a hard-packed mixture of dry ingredients, which creates a reaction when it meets water. It does not cause an explosion, strictly saying, but the reaction it causes is fizzing, and that fizzing releases the ingredients in the bath bomb, such as scents, oils, fragrances, colors and bubbles just to name a few. It is almost always spherical, and would fit into your palm nicely. When dry, it could feel powdery/sandy. 🙂
How Do Bath Bombs Work?
It’s time to refresh your memories of chemistry. As aforementioned, bath bombs are not reactive when they’re dry, but water converts citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to sodium citrate and carbon dioxide. Basically, this is the reaction while your bath bomb is fizzing. With the release of the bath bomb’s ingredients, your bath water looks good and smells good! We don’t know about you, but we love seeing a bath bomb fizz! 🤩
Bath Bombs vs. Bubble Baths
A bubble bath, as you can guess, is nothing but bubbles. To create these bubbles, or foam, a bubble bar is used, and these bubbles will remain on the surface of the water. This protects the modesty of the bather, and also insulates the temperature of the water. On the other hand, bath bombs dissolve in the water, and the bubbles they produce may not be of the foam kind. Usually bath bombs are designed to look pretty and smell good, so what you usually get with bath bombs will be a fragrant, colorful tub of water as compared to a foamy tub. 😊

How To Use Bath Bombs?
The most satisfying way? Just chuck the whole bath bomb in and enjoy the show. We suppose you could also cradle it in your palms and feel it fizz away, but we really do prefer the theatrics of plopping a bath bomb into the tub and watching the colors swirl and twirl. ❤
Can I Reuse Bath Bombs?
Well, technically you could, but the effects won’t be as great. Plus, you would have to be very careful about getting just enough for your current bath, and preserving enough for the next bath. As long as the bath bomb does not completely dissolve, you could save it for your next bath. In our opinion though, that will be a bit tricky because you might not be able to properly predict how long or how short the bath bombs needs to dissolve. 🤔
Do I Have To Use The Whole Bath Bomb?
Not if you do not want to, and this is actually smarter than the method mentioned above: breaking your bath bomb into smaller chunks. This way, you can keep your unused bath bomb parts completely dry, and also preserve its effect as much as possible. Do keep in mind however, that a really small chunk may have not much effect, and if you really want to save on your bath bombs, maybe just use half at a time. And since it’s all hard-packed, it may get messy when you break it. 🙂
Can I Use Bath Bombs In The Shower?
Again, you technically could, but why waste it? Bath bombs dissolve once in contact with water so you’re basically watching bath bomb go down the drain as the water washes over you. Literally. That’s why it’s called a bath bomb, not a shower bomb.
Do Bath Bombs Expire?
They do have a shelf life actually, and bath bombs work best when they’re fresh. Try to use your bath bombs within 6 months, otherwise most products will also have an expiration label stamped on, so you could always refer to that. However, after 6 months, you do not necessarily have to throw them out. You could still use them, but like we said, less effective. Since bath bombs are not goods to be consumed, you would be okay with using them unless of course, the bath bombs smell funny, have grown something, or is visibly spoiled. ☺
Are Bath Bombs Safe To Use?
Generally, yes. But if you have sensitive skin, you might want to pay close attention to ingredients in bath bombs, or if you have skin allergies, perhaps it’s best to avoid bath bombs altogether. Depending on the ingredients, some bath bombs may contain fragrances and dye, and your skin may not like that. Some people have developed rashes after using bath bombs perhaps due to certain ingredients that did not sit well with them, but most people use bath bombs without issues, us included. Just a rule of thumb: everything in moderation, so unless you’re bath bombing yourself 24/7, there really should not be any issue. 😅
