They may look similar, but their functions are quite different. Basically, an air conditioner cools the air, while an air purifier cleans it. A (portable) air conditioner works by draining hot air out and pumping cold air in, which controls the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. On the other hand, air purifiers cycle the air through filters or neutralises the air through ionisation, which removes particles, pollutants and odours that affect the quality of the air. Air purifiers do not control temperature or humidity of the air, only the quality. With air conditioners, you get cooler air. With air purifiers, you get cleaner air. 😀
Do All Portable Air Conditioners Have To Be Vented Out A Window?
They don’t necessarily have to be vented out a window per se, but the hot air has to go somewhere. As mentioned earlier, you can actually vent portable air conditioners through a wall, drop ceiling or door – as long as there is somewhere for the hot air to go. Most (if not all) portable air conditioners come with a venting kit as well, so all you have to do is install it properly. 😊
Why Is My Portable Air Conditioner Not Cold?
There are usually a few reasons why you feel like your portable air conditioner isn’t as cold as expected. First of all, it could be due to air flow blockage, which means that there are obstacles right where the device is pulling in air. No air, no cool air. Or maybe, the venting hose is too long, which causes problems in getting rid of the hot air. Usually, the shorter the hose, the better it is at venting the hot air. 😄
Your portable air conditioner could also be not as cold due to a dirty or clogged filter. Once in a while, do remember to check on the filter and clean it regularly. It could also be that your portable air conditioner is of the wrong size. Not its physical size, but its cooling power, known as BTU ratings. For quick cooling across a larger area, switch on your regular A/C. To cool a room or confined space, use a portable air conditioner instead of the regular one. Can I Leave A Portable Air Conditioner On All Day?
Technically, you could, but why would you? By all day, we mean 24/7. We recommend only using it when you need it for financial and safety reasons. Second of all, you can never be too careful with electrical devices – electrical accidents can and do happen, and you don’t want to be on the receiving end of these accidents.
